Resealable zip pack elevates long‑pasta convenience

Altopack has introduced a resealable zip pack for spaghetti, bringing a fresh layer of functionality to a category long dominated by the conventional pillow bag.
The Italian machinery specialist says the innovation redefines how long pasta can be stored after opening, addressing convenience, freshness and waste reduction in one move.
A line from the company’s press release captures the shift: “By combining creativity, design and engineering expertise, the company has developed a packaging solution for long pasta that represents a significant step forward compared with the conventional pillow pack.”
What’s new
Transverse zip closure — the pack features a horizontal resealable zip that replaces the typical tear‑open adhesive strip. Once opened, consumers can simply reclose the bag, protecting pasta from contamination and helping maintain freshness over multiple uses.
Improved portion control — users can remove only the amount they need and reseal the rest, supporting smaller households and reducing food waste.
Shelf‑impact design — building on Altopack’s earlier square‑bottom pack, the new format maintains strong merchandising potential with printable surfaces and a distinctive premium look.
Bundled 100g portions — a version with individually banded 100‑gram portions offers an additional convenience layer for consumers seeking precise meal prep.
International traction — the system has already been installed at a major Western Asian pasta producer, signalling early commercial momentum.
Another line from the release underscores the consumer‑centric angle: “Designed with convenience in mind, the pack allows consumers to remove the desired amount of pasta and reseal it with a simple gesture.”
The launch taps into broader shifts in food consumption: smaller households, rising solo living, and demand for packaging that supports freshness, portioning and reduced waste. In a category often seen as conservative, Altopack’s zip pack positions pasta packaging closer to modern expectations for functionality and premiumisation.
