Food-tech venture React Foods, a spin-out utilising technology developed by researchers at Aarhus University, the Novo Nordisk Foundation CO₂ Research Center (CORC), and international partners, has entered the alternative protein landscape.

Backed by early-stage funding from the BioInnovation Institute (BII), the start-up is deploying gas fermentation systems to turn CO2, hydrogen, and microorganisms into high-protein yeast ingredients suitable for human consumption.

Unlike first-generation plant proteins that require extensive land and water or biomass fermentation requiring sugar feedstocks, React Foods captures emissions directly and converts them into nutritional building blocks using renewable energy.
