Paramount puts £5.6m behind DB Foods’ next growth phase

Paramount Food Group has invested £5.6 million in meat wholesaler DB Foods as it seeks to strengthen the business’s financial foundations, improve operational performance and build on annual turnover of more than £200 million.
The move signals a shift from post-acquisition stabilisation towards sustainable growth, with implications for customer relationships, supplier partnerships and commercial discipline.
Investment strengthens financial foundations
Paramount Food Group has committed £5.6 million to DB Foods as the UK meat wholesaler enters the next phase of its development, following a programme of financial, commercial and operational improvements since its acquisition in August 2025.
The investment has supported DB Foods’ financial position and working capital, while providing resources to accelerate changes across the business. It comes as newly filed accounts reveal turnover of £202.9 million for the extended reporting period to 31 December 2025, underlining the scale of the operation.
The accounts also show an improvement in the company’s balance sheet. Net assets increased from approximately £2.95 million to £4.95 million, while net current assets rose from £1.82 million to £3.88 million.
These figures suggest that the investment and restructuring programme are to create a stronger financial platform from which it can pursue further growth.
From acquisition to operational improvement
Since taking ownership, Paramount has focused on strengthening financial controls, management accountability and commercial reporting. The business has also increased its attention to customer and product performance, supplier relationships and working capital management.
These priorities are significant in meat wholesale, where profitability can be affected by changing input costs, customer demand, product mix and the efficient management of stock and cash.
Stronger commercial reporting can help identify which customers and product categories deliver sustainable returns, while closer supplier partnerships can support continuity of supply and more effective commercial planning. Improved working capital management is also important for a business operating at this scale, helping it manage day-to-day commitments while funding future development.
Sunny Sharma, director of Paramount Food Group and DB Foods, said the acquisition brought together a business with significant scale and established industry relationships.
“Paramount acquired a business with significant scale, strong customer and supplier relationships and an established position within the UK food industry.”
He added that the first year had focused on strengthening the foundations of DB Foods and providing the support needed to move forward with greater commercial discipline and clarity.
Sustainable growth becomes the priority
Paramount’s investment signals a longer-term commitment to DB Foods, with the next stage centred on growth, stronger partnerships and continued operational improvement.
For customers, the stated emphasis on commercial discipline and customer performance could mean a sharper focus on service, product requirements and the value of existing relationships. For producers and suppliers, the commitment to stronger partnerships offers scope for closer collaboration, although the company has not detailed specific changes to its sourcing strategy or commercial arrangements.
The financial backing may also give DB Foods greater capacity to pursue its strategic objectives, but the extent of future expansion has not yet been specified.
“The investment made by Paramount demonstrates our long-term commitment to DB Foods,” Sharma said. “We are now moving into the next phase of the business, with a clear focus on sustainable growth, stronger partnerships with both customers and producers and continued operational improvement.”
Early trading provides confidence
The company’s strategic report states that trading during the early months of the 2025/26 financial year has been strong. The board remains confident in delivering its growth objectives and says sufficient resources have been put in place to support the strategy over the next two to three years.
The immediate test will be whether the stronger balance sheet and changes to management and commercial processes translate into sustained improvements in performance.
For Paramount, the £5.6 million commitment represents a substantial backing of a sizeable food-sector business. For DB Foods, the challenge is to convert that support into profitable, sustainable growth while preserving the customer and supplier relationships that underpin its established position in the UK meat wholesale market.
