Yorkshire firm Hiley Engineering – a global designer and fabricator of bespoke integrated conveyor systems for the food industry – has been recognised for its manufacturing abilities through a nomination by Halifax Labour MP Linda Riordan for the government’s ‘Made by Britain’ initiative.

Recently launched by business secretary Vince Cable, the ‘Made by Britain’ project takes its inspiration from the hugely successful Great Exhibition of 1851 – which was a celebration of modern industrial technology.

Each of the UK’s 650 MPs has been challenged to search for examples of manufacturing ingenuity and innovation in their constituencies, decide upon the leading candidate and nominate them for the scheme.

Hiley says its nomination is the culmination of what has been an exciting 12 months for the company, which has seen its longstanding national and international profile significantly heightened on the back of a number of major overseas orders.

“We feel incredibly proud to have been nominated,” says managing director Mark Hiley (pictured wirh Riordan). “While this is tremendous news for Hiley, the scheme also highlights the positive reality of British manufacturing, which represents 13 per cent of Britain’s GDP and provides half of all UK exports.”
