Valpak by Reconomy has introduced an industry-leading Global Data Insights Platform designed to help international brands and retailers navigate the increasingly complex web of global packaging regulations.

The new platform centralises all packaging, component, and supplier data into a single, unified system. By referencing the world’s largest packaging and product dataset — which includes over 60 million SKUs — the tool allows businesses to validate their data with high precision. This level of visibility is becoming essential as seven US states have already passed bills for Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (pEPR), and the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) continues to introduce more complex demands.

According to Phillip Crum, director of Data Insights at Valpak, modern compliance has evolved beyond simply submitting accurate data. He suggests that the primary benefits now lie in putting that data to work to reduce costs and drive systemic change.

The platform enables companies to model global compliance costs and assess recyclability, which is particularly vital as businesses prepare for the introduction of modulated fees.

The surge in regulatory pressure is evident in the market, with Valpak reporting that enquiries related to PPWR have risen by over 40% in just eight months. To address this, the platform allows users to create live reports on plastic usage, recycled content, and source certification while mapping these packaging decisions directly to established ESG commitments.

Furthermore, the platform emphasises the collaborative nature of the value chain. By gaining visibility into how individual suppliers contribute to overall data and fee exposure, businesses can pinpoint specific areas for improvement. This data-driven approach allows for strategic procurement decisions and helps engage suppliers to fill data gaps, ultimately helping companies avoid penalties and strengthen their reporting accuracy.
