Coveris, a global leader in sustainable flexible packaging, has announced an €1.8 million investment across its manufacturing sites in Poland.

The move is designed to significantly scale production capacity, enhance operational agility, and introduce advanced functional features to its packaging portfolio in the Central and Eastern European (CEE) market.

The investment targets several key growth sectors, including food, pet food, and personal care, reinforcing Poland’s position as a vital manufacturing hub for the group.

Boosting throughput and efficiency

Central to the expansion is the installation of a SOMA Proxima high-speed printing press. This state-of-the-art flexographic technology allows for wide web applications to run at speeds of up to 400 meters per minute.

According to the company, this addition will increase annual printing capacity by approximately 30%, allowing Coveris to offer faster turnaround times and consistent print quality for high-volume orders.

In addition to printing capabilities, Coveris has integrated a new LEMO bag-making machine. Capable of producing up to 550 bags per minute, the line specialises in wicketted bags ranging from 230mm to 380mm. The machinery is compatible with CPP, LDPE, and HDPE films, providing the scalability needed to handle seasonal demand peaks for bakery and fresh produce brands.

Elevating consumer experience

Beyond raw capacity, the investment focuses on smart packaging functionality. Coveris has introduced laser scoring technology for its stand-up pouches and flat-bottom bags. This precision technology allows for clean, easy-open features — a critical differentiator in the competitive food and pet food sectors where consumer convenience often drives brand loyalty.

Strategic growth in CEE

Christian Kolarik, CEO of Coveris, emphasised that the investment is a direct response to the fast-moving nature of the current market.

“Strategic investment in technology is key to how we grow and support our customers,” said Kolarik. “By strengthening our operations in Poland, we are expanding capacity, increasing flexibility, and delivering the speed and quality our customers need to compete.”

By combining high-speed production with enhanced finishing capabilities, Coveris aims to shorten lead times and provide a more robust supply chain for its European partners. This latest move underscores the company’s “No Waste” vision, optimising production efficiency while delivering high-performance, shelf-ready solutions to the CEE region.
