United Caps has announced an expansion of its carton packaging closure portfolio, introducing an alternative sourcing model built around a clear industry proposition: “Change the cap, keep the complex.”

Traditionally, carton packaging has been procured as a rigidly integrated system — linking the packaging complex, filling equipment, and closures under a single supplier relationship. While this simplifies initial technical coordination, it often leaves buyers with limited flexibility if supply chain bottlenecks, lead-time shifts, or commercial changes arise.

United Caps is addressing this challenge by offering high-performance carton closures that are fully compatible with both legacy and alternative complexes, running smoothly on existing tethered and non-tethered lines without requiring line modifications or machine setting adjustments.

Proven performance

At the heart of the current portfolio is the well-established 23 H-PAK, drawing on nearly two decades of UNITED CAPS expertise in carton closures. Engineered with a user-friendly tethered configuration, the 23 H-PAK securely locks in the open position and remains entirely clear of the pouring area, ensuring a clean, unobstructed pour for consumers.

Looking ahead

Expanding on this proven foundation, United Caps has confirmed the upcoming market launch of the 27 H-PAK (covering both Alu and Alu-Free complexes) at the end of 2027. Rigorous testing and validation for the new platform have already been successfully completed, giving manufacturers an advanced option when defining future carton packaging specifications.

Navigating PPWR and sustainability requirements

As brand owners and packaging procurement teams prepare for the stringent requirements of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), material recyclability and supply resilience are under intense scrutiny. To support these transitions, both the 23 H-PAK and 27 H-PAK can be produced using mass-balanced bio-based resins or recycled content. This allows brands to improve their environmental profiles and meet regulatory targets without disrupting their established packaging lines.

“A closure is one component of the carton pack. Buyers should be able to evaluate and source it according to the same technical and commercial criteria as any other component, without changing the rest of the line. We are here to give buyers that choice,” said Alan Quéméneur, chief growth officer at United Caps.

The expanded closure solutions are engineered for a wide range of applications, including dairy, juice, stocks, soups, and selected non-liquid products.
