Greiner and HOLY redefine personalisation with Syrup bottle dosing system

In a move to disrupt the standardised soft drink market, Greiner Packaging and Berlin-based beverage innovator HOLY have unveiled the Syrup Bottle.
This high-tech reusable system separates water from syrup, only combining them at the moment of consumption through a sophisticated, integrated dosing mechanism.
Precision engineering
The Syrup Bottle is a complex functional system carrier. Developed to industrial maturity by Greiner, the bottle features a mechanical cap system designed for five levels of flavour intensity.
Consumers can adjust their drink’s taste profile on the fly without opening or refilling the bottle. This level of personalisation is achieved through a 13-component assembly that requires extreme manufacturing precision:
- Micro-tolerances: the injection-moulded dosing mechanism includes a central component with an opening smaller than one millimeter.
- Premium materials: the bottle is crafted from durable Tritan, while the cap utilises ABS and functional silicone elements for a leak-proof, long-lasting seal.
- IML Technology: the integrated carrier for interchangeable syrup pods uses in-mould labeling (IML) to allow for versatile, high-end designs.
Shifting from powder to liquid concentrates
Marking its fifth anniversary, HOLY — previously known for its community-driven powder-based energy and hydration drinks — is using this launch to debut a new product category. For the first time, the brand is moving into liquid concentrates via interchangeable pods that snap directly into the Greiner-designed bottle.
“Greiner Packaging is far more than a traditional plastics specialist,” says Florian Horsch, director of product at HOLY. “It is a place where people work with passion and genuine enthusiasm. These shared values laid the foundation for a successful project.”
A circular approach to convenience
Beyond the user experience, the system is a significant step forward in sustainable consumption. The Syrup Bottle is dishwasher-safe (up to 50°C) and designed for long-term reuse, significantly reducing the reliance on single-use plastic bottles typical of the ready-to-drink (RTD) market.
Herwig Stadler, head of project management at Greiner Packaging, noted that the collaboration has created an entirely new product category:
“Being able to bridge the gap from idea to mass production with our technical expertise shows how partnership-driven development shapes market success.”
The Syrup Bottle system is now available as a permanent fixture in the HOLY portfolio, with plans to expand the flavor range and category presence across Europe following a massive positive response on social media.
