The Cornish pasty has obtained Protected Geographical Indication status – putting it on par with Champagne and Stilton.
The ruling from the European Commission means that only Cornish pasties made in Cornwall, following the traditional recipe, can use the name.
But authentic Cornish pasties can be baked elsewhere in the country as long as they are prepared in the west country.
The Cornish Pasty Association (CPA) submitted the application for special protection almost nine years ago.
