Biscuit wrap line

A feeding and wrapping line, capable of presenting stacked biscuits in variety of different formats, has been built for a European bakery by SPS Italiana Pack Systems, part of the PFM Group.

Formats chosen by the bakery include single and twin stacks of both round and square products, as well as larger packs with up to four stacks supported by a U-board tray, created on the wrapping machine from reel stock. Speed is up to 1,600 biscuits a minute.

“Demand for machinery to create portion packs of biscuits has grown substantially over the past few years, reflecting the trend towards more snacking,” says PFM sales and operations director, Chris Bolton. “This line provides the opportunity to switch easily between products and formats.”

The line includes a handling arrangement to accept biscuits from cooling with lane reduction from 20 to ten and 24 to 12, before feeding into a stack formation system that is programmable for variable quantities.
