Raising a glass to the future

In about five weeks, it will be time for drinktec 2025 to open its doors.
Off the back of the recent International Beer Day – the worldwide celebration of beer, as well as the people who brew, serve and drink it – it is good to know that around 1,100 exhibitors will present solutions and future technologies in eleven halls at the Munich Exhibition Center.
Now, I know there is more to drinktec than beer, however beer’s history is fascinating – and its evolution even more so.
Beer embraced technology early on and innovations like steam power, refrigeration, and automated bottling transformed the brewing landscape. These advancements enabled breweries to transcend geographies and develop markets such that beer is enjoyed by people all over the world.
What makes drinktec such a special exhibition to attend is how technology has not only elevated the quality of the final product but also granted brewers consistency, scalability, and creativity.
Earlier this year, we learnt that a fruit beer revolution is sweeping the UK, with demand for lighter, fruit-infused brews growing significantly. Tesco reported a 250 per cent increase in sales volume over the past year, making fruit-led beer the UK’s fastest-growing trend in the category.
Beer has also found its place in the culinary realm, and is now capable of being paired with global cuisines.
As International Beer Day was a day to appreciate the drink itself, the craft and tradition behind it, drinktec, from September 15 to 19, 2025, should illustrate how beer’s story continues to unfold with technology at its heart.
Cheers. See you in five weeks.
