As a family business with international customers, the dedicated team at Becketts provides high-quality bacon products to its growing customer base. Recently Becketts tested the prototype of Provisur’s Hoegger X3 PRO form press.
This precision-engineered machine features integrated Loadsensing and sets new standards in energy efficiency, low noise emission and fast die set change. It delivers increased performance while ensuring gentle treatment of the product and saving up to 65% in energy.
Q: The prototype of the Hoegger X3 PRO was trialled in the production of bacon and back bacon at Becketts. Did the machine perform to your satisfaction?
CG: We were thoroughly impressed with the performance of the machine. It operated reliably and efficiently, fully meeting our expectations and delivering the results we were promised. The equipment integrated smoothly into our operations, and we were pleased with both its quality and consistency. It was a great addition to our setup whilst on site.
Q: What do you see as the main advantage of the X3 PRO compared to the former Hoegger meat press?
CG: The original press quickly proved itself as a reliable, robust, and consistent performer in our operation. Its main advantage is the ability to deliver uniform, high-quality product. The new X3 PRO press builds on that foundation, offering even greater energy efficiency, easier operation and, quicker changeover times thanks to the rapid toolless die set change, as well as improved hygiene
features. We also seen a marked reduction in noise levels and lower emissions, — all contributing to a more sustainable and operator-friendly environment. It is a clear evolution of a proven piece of machinery, and we quickly saw the benefits in our day-to-day production.
Q: Were you able to identify other advantages?
CG: The consistency and accuracy of the press significantly reduced giveaway — it improved portion control on our slicers, allowing us to get more from every back. It had a direct impact on both productivity and profitability and quickly became an essential part of our process. We were very sad to let the X3 PRO go after the trial!
Q: Were you able to tailor the X3 PRO to your production requirements?
CG: Yes. For example, the Provisur team designed a shelf to assist in manual loading. We made the shelf and installed it with ease on the press. These types of tweaks extend available options.
Q: Can you tell us about the quality of the pressing result?
CG: The pressing result was excellent: consistent, clean, and exactly what we were aiming for. The machine delivered a uniform shape and density across every piece that went through it. This made downstream handling and packing much more efficient. It is very clear the equipment was designed with precision and performance in mind.
Q: What about the speed of the machine?
CG: The speed of the machine was outstanding, far exceeding our expectations. It handled high volumes effortlessly without compromising on quality. This significantly improved our throughput. It was a real game-changer for our production line.
Q: In general, how do you rate the quality of Provisur equipment?
CG: Provisur equipment has proven to be of exceptionally high quality. It is very clear that a lot of thought has gone into the design and build – it is robust, reliable, and built to last. From installation to daily operation, it performs consistently well and gives us complete confidence in its long-term
performance as well as confidence in any future equipment Provisur may offer.
Q: Did you receive comprehensive support and service during the test period?
CG: The support and service we received during the test period were outstanding. The Provisur team was responsive, knowledgeable, and fully committed to ensuring everything ran smoothly. Their hands-on approach gave us confidence in both the equipment and the partnership, making the entire process seamless from start to finish.
