Coca-Cola has been granted planning permission for a major new development in Northern Ireland. The site at Knockmore Hill was chosen ahead of 60 other locations across Ireland and will provide an all-Ireland plant to replace existing facilities north and south of the border.
The franchise company, Coca-Cola Bottlers, says the new plant will have 50,175 sq m of floor space. Coca-Cola Bottlers announced last April that the new facility on the outskirts of Lisburn will mean the closure of existing production plants at Lambeg, near Lisburn, and at Naas Road in Dublin.
Around 230 production workers at Lambeg will transfer to the Knockmore Hill plant, which will take 18 months to develop. Coca-Cola Bottlers Ulster also employs 270 other staff at Lambeg in a variety of roles and they will also transfer to the new site.
