Schur Flexibles acquires premium packaging manufacturers

Schur Flexibles Group has added two premium packaging manufacturers from the Clondalkin Group, based in Utrecht, The Netherlands to its portfolio.
The new acquisitions include Cats-Hänsel’s two sites Cats Flexibles Packaging B.V., based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and Hänsel Flexible Packaging GmbH, in Freital, Germany, as well as Nimax B.V., in Elst, The Netherlands.
It is hoped that these acquisitions will strengthen Schur Flexibles’s position in the sector of premium packaging for the confectionery and tea market. The three locations with approximately 135 employees generate a sales volume of over €30 million (2017). With these acquisitions, turnover is expected to grow to over €400m in 2018.
Michael Schernthaner, managing director of the Schur Flexibles Group, says, “These companies fit perfectly into our growth strategy. In parallel, we are investing in our plant network to build up our highly specialised production locations further and thus creating additional added value for our customers.”
Cats-Hänsel produces waxed paper and barrier packaging including premium-quality flexo and gravure printing technologies. The company manufactures Ecowax, a fully biodegradable vegetable-based alternative to traditional wax packaging which offers sustainable packaging solutions for confectionery manufacturers.
Hänsel manufactures flexible packaging solutions tuned to run on the high-speed
packing lines of its customers. Nimax is a producer of high-quality tea tags and envelopes, as well as inlay sheets for tobacco packaging.
Schernthaner comments, “Our customers are now profiting from an even broader range of innovative, specialised and sustainable packaging and service solutions from one source, which we develop at our highly specialised locations.
“We are continuing our expansion strategy and see alongside organic growth further opportunities for acquisitions.”
The intended transaction is subject to internal and external approvals including the approval by the relevant competition authorities.
