Bandall has announced the global launch of Bandall SmartBand, a next-generation technology designed to streamline operations including in food processing environments.

The system directly addresses fragmented workflows by combining data processing, variable printing, and optional weighing into a single, continuous operation.

Packaging lines traditionally rely on separate systems for weighing, printing, and labelling, which often leads to “additional handling and increased risk of errors.” SmartBand resolves this complexity by capturing, processing, and printing product data in real time directly onto the band during application. According to the company, this advancement “transforms banding into a reliable and intelligent part of the production flow,” allowing the band to serve as a functional data carrier that enhances efficiency, traceability, and product identification.

The integrated technology brings several distinct operational advantages to brands, including:

  • Real-time application of variable product data
  • Integration of weighing, data processing, and banding in a single flow
  • Reduced manual handling and process complexity
  • Improved consistency and operational control

In practice, the system expands the role of packaging “without adding complexity to the production line.” For food processors, it allows weight and price information to be printed directly during the banding of variable-weight items like meat and fish.

Beyond operational efficiency, the technology simplifies workflows to deliver sustainability benefits. By applying data directly to the band, companies can eliminate the need for additional labelling components like adhesives and backing materials, thereby reducing overall material use.

The launch represents a shift toward more strategic, minimal packaging. Bram van Roosmalen, CEO of Bandall, explained the vision behind the release: “Packaging today is often more complex and material intensive than it needs to be. With SmartBand, we demonstrate how banding can evolve into a smart, integrated solution that supports both operational efficiency and sustainability.”

Bandall positions banding as a high impact alternative to traditional packaging methods such as labels, sleeves and shrink wrap, offering a cleaner, more efficient and more flexible approach while significantly bringing down overall packaging volume.

Bandall SmartBand will initially be available in selected regions, with a phased global rollout.
