Muntons celebrates energy management accolade
Malt and malted ingredients manufacturer Muntons has become the first maltster in the world to gain the ISO50001 standard for Energy Management.
This standard, introduced to the UK in July last year, tests that energy management procedures are highly robust and that a facility operates according to best practice. To be compliant, a company must also prove that its energy savings are targeted and achieved, and that staff are well versed in the importance of energy measurement and saving.
“This is a major achievement to be among the first few companies in the UK to achieve ISO50001,” says a Muntons spokesman. “It is a worldwide first among malting companies and follows previous environmental successes.
“We have met stringent targets for energy saving set by the Department for Energy and Climate Change, and saved over 12 per cent of gas and electrical energy used over the past 12 years. This has been achieved by involving staff at all levels, appointing a group energy manager and installing an energy monitoring and targeting system to capture significant energy use on our sites.”
