Popped lotus seed brand Guruji hits UK shelves

Snacking brand Guruji is set to launch its innovative range of snacks made of popped lotus seeds.

Lotus seeds have been valued in India and China for centuries for their nutritional composition, and have recently hit UK shelves. Hailed as a credible alternative to popcorn and crisps, Guruji’s product range includes four variants: Smoky Thai, Cheesy Vegan, Lightly Salted and Salt & Cacao.

Founder Akhil Kumar said: “I have Northern Indian heritage, and the Bihar region is where the majority of India’s supply is produced. I grew up eating the seeds and knowing about their notable health credentials, and they were also the perfect replacement to snacking on nuts due to my allergies. With Guruji, we have taken all the health properties of the seeds and made them exciting for a Western audience, by layering them with punchy gourmet flavours specifically designed for this market.”

“While not first to the UK market, we have a secure supply chain which provides premium, consistent lotus seeds, so we are confident that every pack of Guruji delivers. They taste fantastic, are healthy and satiating, and therefore provide the perfect snack.”

Guruji’s popped Lotus seeds are handmade in the UK, naturally gluten-free, vegan, low in calories and are a source of plant-based protein. They also have a sustainable life-cycle and are hand-farmed; no machinery is used in the process meaning their product is not extruded. Lotus seeds are grown using natural water supplies.
