Captain Kombucha expands range of fermented drinks

Captain Kombucha has launched two new flavours as part of its naturally fermented drinks range.

Handcrafted in western Portugal, the new arrivals include Cayenne Pepper and Pineapple Peach flavours, available in Holland & Barrett, Morrisons, Wholefoods and Grape Tree from May 2019.

The new launches join the existing Captain Kombucha flavours, including Original, California Raspberry, Ginger & Lemon, and Coconut – all available in 400ml bottles.

Following demand for larger alternatives to the existing portfolio, the brand has also launched one litre bottles of the Original, California Raspberry, Ginger & Lemon and Coconut flavours, available in Wholefoods and Grape Tree. The one litre Original & Raspberry flavours will also be available in Holland & Barrett later this month.

Organic, vegan and gluten free, with no preservatives, artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners, the probiotic drink is made from tea and Kombucha probiotic culture.

James Hudson, Captain Kombucha’s UK director, said: “Our vision is to be the world’s largest non-alcoholic fermented drinks company and 2019 is set to be a breakthrough year for the kombucha market.

“With demand for vegan-friendly, healthy produce on the rise – and more awareness about gut health than ever before – there’s no better time to expand on our existing range with new flavours to delight our loyal customers and appeal to new ones. The launch of the larger bottles is also a direct response to customer demand.

“Our turnover continues to grow at an amazing 350% year-on-year; testament to the growing popularity of kombucha in an ever-more health conscious world. We’re excited to see where the rest of the year will take us.”

Winner of best new organic product at last year’s Natural and Organic product show, Captain Kombucha posted sales of €3.1million in 2018.
