Sproud, the low carbon footprint, pea protein milk alternative, has launched Sproud Unsweetened – a UK and European first in that it contains zero sugar with no compromise on taste.

According to the alternative milk brand, Sproud Unsweetened has a natural creamy texture and neutral flavour, with a clean colour. In a taste test, nine out of ten consumers preferred Sproud Unsweetened to the leading unsweetened oats and soy-based milks on the market. The new milk alternative reportedly has the closest taste to semi-skimmed milk, with the same level of vitamins and minerals.

Made from yellow split peas, which are one of the most sustainable plant-based milk protein sources, Sproud says it has one mission; to be the best tasting non-dairy milk, with the lowest carbon footprint possible. Peas use minimal water, land and carbon to be produced, but they pack over three times the amount of protein than oat milk and five times the amount of almond milk.

Maria Tegman, head of brand at Sproud, said: “Consumers are looking to eat and live smarter than ever before. Our new Unsweetened addition to the Sproud family supports the need for a health-focussed, plant-based lifestyle.

”Too much sugar is a key concern in diets across the UK and by providing a healthy and nutritious alternative to semi-skimmed milk, we can help consumers take a step to making better food choices.”

All Sproud products are vegan-friendly and free of allergens, including gluten and soy.

The new Unsweetened addition replaces Sproud Original in the UK.

You won’t find Sproud in the chilled aisle; the 1 litre Tetra Pak is available from the ambient section in Waitrose, Ocado, Amazon and independent stores throughout the UK.
