Strangeways brewery launches new CBD-infused gin

Strangeways Beers and Spirits, a Manchester-based business, is the latest company to join the growing CBD market with a brand new, fully compliant CBD (Cannabidiol) infused gin.

Strangeways has created Hazy Dry and Hazy Strawberry Gin, which have been handcrafted and distilled in Manchester. The CBD extract used by the brand is reportedly of the highest quality and supported by a COA (Certificate of Analysis).

Playing to their Manchester heritage, the products were destined to be ‘only served behind bars’, however due to the coronavirus pandemic, this was put on hold, and currently gin lovers across the UK can visit the Strangeways website to purchase directly. However bars, restaurants, hotels, off licences and major retailers remain the key focus for Strangeways – and where the brand sees the biggest opportunity for growth.

Wanting to work with local suppliers as much as possible, Strangeways has signed an exclusive deal for distribution with Knutsford-based distributors Hammonds, who had been making solid progress in signing up trade partners before Covid-19.

Paul Hesketh, Strangeways’ founder said; “Bars, pubs, and restaurants really are the focus for me with the brand. The whole idea for the Strangeways Beers and Spirits business was thought up in a pub. When local news of the closure of the Boddingtons Brewery broke we were chatting about it in our local wine bar. My friends and I thought it was a travesty – it was such a Manchester institution. We said we should all group together, buy it and set up our own brewery and decided on the name and strapline ‘Strangeways beers – only served behind bars’ then and there. Obviously that didn’t happen – but what started out as a bit of a fun chat over a glass of wine has now, years later, ended up as my latest business.”

Strangeways Beers and Spirits was set up by the Cheshire-based entrepreneur and businessman in 2015, launching Cask Ale under license with Coach House Brewery in Warrington, Cheshire. The beverage was supplied to several public houses in the Manchester and Cheshire area during the summer of 2015 as a test of the brand.

Hesketh continued: “The gin revolution isn’t slowing anytime soon and for many customers having their gin cocktail infused with CBD is exciting and adds a little more spice to their night than a wedge of lemon or stuffed olive. CBD is known to promote feelings of calmness and self confidence, and with the boom in gin sales we thought there was no better partner for it.”

The gins are infused with CBD from authorised and regulated suppliers in the UK. They come in 50cl bottles and are 40% ABV.

Market research commissioned by the CMC estimates that the CBD market is currently one of the fastest growing wellbeing product categories in the UK. At the current rate it will reportedly be worth almost £1 billion per annum by 2025.
