Saintly Foods scoops top desserts award

UK company Saintly Foods has won the top accolade in the ‘Desserts & Puddings – Tarts’ category of the 2020 Quality Food Awards, with its British Apple Tarts.

Owner and founder of Saintly Foods, Vanessa McNiven, commented: “I’m absolutely thrilled that the British Apple Tarts I originally made at home for my family and friends have now been recognised with a prestigious Quality Foods Award. I’ve always been passionate about eating wholesome, natural foods – they taste better, are easier to digest and have environmental benefits – which is why I was inspired to found Saintly in the first place. Being announced winner of ‘Desserts and Puddings’ is a huge stamp of approval, showing that amazing taste can go hand in hand with natural ingredients and a vegan philosophy.”

Launched over 40 years ago to recognise and celebrate the best retail food products in the UK, the Quality Food Awards were held virtually for the first time this year. Saintly’s British Apple Tarts reportedly wowed the judges by bringing together the tastiest homegrown apples in a scrumptious vegan pie crust made from wholemeal spelt flour, ground almonds and oats. Containing almost 70% classic British apples (Bramley and eating apples) plus pure maple syrup, cinnamon and lemon juice to create a divine dessert, the puddings offer the perfect balance of acidity, sweetness and texture, according to Saintly. As getting a vegan pud just right can be a challenge at home, Saintly says its creations take away all the hard work to offer the ideal solution for consumers looking to follow a more plant based diet whether for health or ethical reasons without compromising on flavour. As the tarts are frozen, they can be also kept on ‘stand by’ in the freezer for whenever consumers want an indulgent treat. The freezing process ensures all the goodness and nutrient value of the fresh fruit is retained.

Saintly’s award-winning tart is just one of a select range of desserts made by hand in Saintly’s purpose-made vegan kitchen in Cambridge. Inspired by the best of British puddings, the five-strong range also includes Dark Chocolate, Chocolate and Salted Caramel, Sweet Almond and Raspberry plus Blackberry and Apple Crumble tarts. All additive, preservative, soy, sulphate, animal product and palm oil-free, each dessert follows the brand’s principles of using the best carefully and ethically selected natural ingredients to create moreish results which harness the goodness of ancient grains, coconut sugar and oil and often fresh fruit for ultimate taste and texture.

Packaged in two-tart boxes, Saintly Divine Desserts have an RRP of £4.99 and are available from a series of carefully selected bakeries and health food shops in Cambridge plus online from www.frozenly.co.uk, the new frozen and vegan website that delivers quality foods across the UK. They are also available on www.delishops.co.uk, the latest competitive wholescale marketplace and e-commerce platform dedicated to the independent sector.
