Waitrose and Morrisons celebrate sales surge
Despite catering for very different parts of the market, Waitrose and Morrisons have become Britain’s fastest-growing supermarkets, with both posting sales growth of more than 8 per cent.
By contrast, Tesco sales grew by only 5.3 per cent in the 12 weeks to July 11, according to figures released this week. Morrisons has since revealed that an extra 500,000 shoppers were visiting its stores every week, resulting in increased sales and improved profit margins.
The supermarket also said that its sales of fresh food are more than 10 per cent higher than last year.
