Klüber Lubrication is pioneering a major step toward climate-conscious industrial maintenance with the launch of a new generation of environmentally responsible lubricants.
The company is one of the first worldwide to introduce high-performance specialty lubricants based on mass balanced, bio-based raw materials, all certified under the rigorous REDcert² system.
This initiative allows factory engineers and maintenance teams to meet sustainability targets without sacrificing the performance or approvals they rely on.
The core of this breakthrough is the biomass balance approach. This method systematically replaces fossil-based raw materials with certified renewable alternatives at the very beginning of the production process. The crucial benefit for factory operations is that the final product’s chemical composition and application performance remain identical to its conventional counterpart.
“By integrating mass balanced, renewable raw materials into our lubricants, we not only reduce our own carbon footprint but also enable our customers to meet their sustainability targets without having to make any changes in handling or performance,” explained Jun Harasaki, head of product portfolio management at Klüber Lubrication.
The initial product rollout focuses on the widely used Klübersynth GH 6 gear oil series, covering the most common viscosities. These new versions are easily identifiable by the suffix “MB” for “mass balanced.”
According to Oliver Fassmann, product portfolio manager, the Klübersynth GH 6 MB series is chemically and functionally equivalent to the original Klübersynth GH 6, retaining all key industry approvals from major manufacturers including Flender, Siemens, SEW Eurodrive, Getriebebau Nord, and many others.
To guarantee transparency and credibility, Klüber Lubrication has fully implemented the REDcert² certification system at its production site in Belgium. This internationally relevant system ensures that a defined share of renewable materials has been used and provides full traceability throughout the supply chain.
The products will carry the label “Fossil resources saving product.” This certification is a significant advantage for factory engineers and procurement teams who need to provide verifiable data for internal sustainability reporting and contribute to the transition toward a circular industrial system.
