FDF ‘Nature Handbook’ guides food and drink makers to nature positivity by 2030

The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) has released a new Nature Handbook aimed squarely at food and drink manufacturers, offering a practical roadmap to help the sector become Nature Positive by 2030.
This initiative is a direct response to the urgent need for the industry — which reports suggest are responsible for approximately one quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions and over 80% of biodiversity loss — to lead the shift toward a more sustainable and resilient food system.
Co-authored with the Broadway Initiative, the Handbook is designed to guide businesses through the complexities of tackling the triple challenge of nature restoration, climate change, and continuous food production.
The food manufacturing industry is fundamentally reliant on a healthy natural environment, making nature restoration essential for supply chain stability amidst growing global threats like floods and droughts.
Balwinder Dhoot, director of sustainability and growth at the FDF, stressed that the industry must act now to mitigate escalating threats.
“As the impacts of climate change continue to grow, so too does the threat to our natural environment and the resilience of our food system,” Dhoot said. “That’s why we’re helping food manufacturers lead the charge and work across the whole food system to protect and restore the environment.”
By embracing the strategies outlined in the Nature Handbook, food and drink manufacturers can directly contribute to the UK’s national ambition to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030, securing the raw materials and environmental stability necessary for their long-term operations.
The Handbook is a key pillar of the FDF’s flagship sustainability strategy, Ambition 2030, providing the sector with practical, immediate steps toward a more sustainable future. Food and drink manufacturers can access the Nature Handbook now to begin their Nature Positive journey.
