The 30th edition of Fi Europe concluded in Paris with record-breaking engagement, welcoming 24,351 professionals from 134 countries. With 1,470 exhibitors representing the global food, beverage, and nutrition sectors, the event solidified its status as a critical facilitator of the innovations set to define the industry in 2026.

As manufacturers and brand owners look toward the next fiscal year, the insights gleaned from the show floor — detailed in the newly released ‘Uncovering Innovation: The Fi Europe Trend Guide 2026’ — point to a landscape dominated by hyper-functional nutrition and the industrialisation of circularity.

A primary takeaway from the event was the further integration of functional benefits into mainstream food and drink categories. No longer a niche segment, “food as medicine” is becoming a core driver for new product development (NPD).

The event featured intensive expert discussions on the gut-brain axis and microbiome modulation, reflecting a shift toward science-backed ingredients that offer specific, personalised health outcomes.

Manufacturers are increasingly seeking ingredients that provide added value through clinical validation, moving beyond general “wellness” claims to targeted solutions for cognitive health, metabolic support, and digestive resilience.

Sustainability regulations and rising consumer consciousness have elevated food upcycling from a CSR initiative to a strategic manufacturing priority. Fi Europe 2025 dedicated significant resources to this theme, including interactive workshops on building resilient food systems and innovation tours showcasing upcycled ingredients.

For industry professionals, the focus for 2026 is on tapping into untapped side streams — transforming processing by-products into high-value purees, concentrates, and powders. This shift is seen as essential for both meeting tightening environmental mandates and improving supply chain efficiency.

The success of this year’s specialised focuses has already influenced the roadmap for Fi Europe 2026, which will be held at Messe Frankfurt from 17–19 November.  To learn more, visit: https://www.figlobal.com/europe/en/home.html

Yannick Verry, brand director at Fi Europe, confirmed that the Pet Food segment is expected to triple in size following the high turnout for pet nutrition networking events. Furthermore, the space dedicated to food manufacturing equipment and services is slated to double, reflecting an industry-wide push for automation and processing efficiency.

“The conversations happening in our hubs and theatres weren’t just meaningful in the moment,” Verry remarked. “They are the catalyst for the innovations we’ll see shaping the market in 2026.”
