Bidfresh unveils ‘Growing Greener’ framework to drive resilience

Specialist fresh food supplier Bidfresh has announced a major strategic pivot with the launch of its latest ‘Growing Greener’ sustainability report.
The document introduces a redefined vision and mission designed to future-proof the business against rising environmental and social pressures within the UK foodservice sector.
The move comes at a critical time for the industry. Recent data suggests that 16% of consumers now hold suppliers directly responsible for ensuring that dining out is a sustainable experience. In response, Bidfresh — which operates Direct Seafoods, Campbell Brothers, and R Noone & Sons — is moving toward a more proactive, evidence-based ESG (environmental, social, and governance) model.
The centrepiece of the announcement is a new corporate mission: “Caring for people, committed to responsible sourcing and delivering the best in foodservice.” To translate this sentiment into operational reality, Bidfresh has introduced its first ‘Plan on a Page.’ This structured foundation is designed to embed ESG priorities across all regional sites, focusing on four core pillars:
Environmental impact: reducing carbon footprints through logistical innovation.
Community resilience: supporting the long-term viability of UK farming and fishing communities.
Ethical governance: upholding rigorous standards in workplace behaviour.
Transparency: ensuring fully traceable sourcing across meat, seafood, and produce.
The 2026 report highlights several tangible wins for the group over the past 12 months. Bidfresh has successfully retained its ASC and MSC Chain of Custody certifications across all seafood trading sites — a vital credential for chefs looking to satisfy eco-conscious diners.
Furthermore, the business has been awarded a ‘Bronze’ medal by EcoVadis, the global sustainability assessment platform, placing it in a competitive position among international peers. On the people side, the company has implemented new ‘Inclusion at Work’ and ‘Workplace Behaviour’ standards, reflecting a broader industry trend toward prioritising Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (DEI).
For hospitality operators, supplier logistics are often the largest contributor to Scope 3 emissions. Bidfresh is addressing this through new route planning technologies aimed specifically at reducing last-mile emissions. By optimising delivery schedules and reducing vehicle idling times, the supplier is helping its customers lower their indirect carbon impact.
“Now in the second year of reporting, I’m so proud of the progress we’ve made,” said Valeria Potsinok, sustainability manager at Bidfresh. “‘Growing Greener’ will enable closer collaboration with our customers, helping them make informed menu and supplier decisions, while supporting their own ESG reporting.”
For food and drink professionals, the Bidfresh report signals a shift in the supplier-client relationship. As ESG reporting becomes mandatory for larger restaurant groups and public sector caterers, suppliers who can provide “clear, evidence-based insight” become strategic partners rather than just vendors.
By aligning its specialist brands — seafood, meat, and produce — under a single, transparent framework, Bidfresh is positioning itself as a “one-stop shop” for resilient sourcing as the industry marches toward the 2030 sustainability deadlines.
