Intertek is offering a complimentary webinar series designed to provide the latest updates on regulatory compliance and food contact materials testing, to support clients in meeting the new European regulatory requirements for plastic food packaging.

Food manufacturers, packers and packaging producers have an obligation to keep up to date with the latest developments in chemical safety and food contact regulations. Recently, there have been developments for testing of plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food in Europe. A transitional period has been introduced to help food operators implement all the requirements of the European Union regulation (EU) and will be enforced 1 January 2016. From this point onwards, any migration testing used to support food contact materials must comply with the regulation.

Dr Ruud Overbeek, vice president of the health, environmental and regulatory services, says, “Many of our customers are proactively working towards meeting the requirements of the forthcoming deadline in January 2016. We recommend that companies requiring support to ensure that all compliance requirements are addressed should contact our regulatory experts as soon as possible.

“Working together closely, we will be able to set up your compliance programme; identify which migration testing rules are applicable to your materials; address how to handle the declaration of compliance.”
