The diaries of food and drink industry folk, myself included, are always packed at this time of year. Having emerged from last week’s Food Matters Live, with its usual array of new product offerings (chocolate-covered pumpkin seeds were something of a revelation), superb speaker line-up and familiar faces lining every aisle, it’s nice to reflect on what a fantastic opportunity it is for me to catch up with the great and the good, many of whom I now have the pleasure of calling friends rather than colleagues.
It had been a while since I’d seen my old pals Jamie Rice and his dad Steve from Foodtrending, so stumbling upon their stand was an unexpected bonus (and it was great to hear that the show had proved to be a successful event for them). Likewise, editorial board member Steve Osborn, who I hadn’t seen for at least six years. I bumped into him (literally) as I was queueing to get in on the first day at the ExCel venue. No doubt I’ll see him again at HiE in Frankfurt this week – another highlight of the ingredients calendar. He suggested meeting for coffee. I suggested wine. I won.
