East End Foods invests in rice
A west Midlands based Indian food specialist has invested £6 million (£8.8m) in a new state of the art rice mill in a move that is set to increase its rice production at the West Bromwich plant by more than 40% during the coming year.
East End Foods said that this new machinery, which is among the largest of its type in Europe, is one of the most advanced of its kind and will produce rice with a near zero per cent broken content. It enables the company to process Basmati, easy cook long grain and American long grain rice.
The new Rice Mill is capable of producing in the region of 36,500 tons of rice per annum and incorporates fully automatic integrated de-stoners, graders, metal and dust extraction and colour sortex units.
To coincide with the launch of the new Rice Mill, East End Foods has introduced its own premium range of Basmati rice, under the Royal brand. Royal Basmati is traditionally matured for two years before it is milled at the plant in the UK. This rice has near zero broken content and is therefore one of the highest quality basmati rice brands currently available for sale in the UK market.
Tony Deep MBE, chairman of the family owned business, commented,“This rice mill is an indication of how seriously we take production here at East End Foods. In order to provide the customer with the highest possible quality produce, it is essential to be equipped with state of the art machinery as well as full traceability of all our products.
The company has also recently purchased a spice grinding mill and specialist spice roasting machine, both of which have greatly increased production of high quality spices on site.
