New kind of soft drink combats diabetes and obesity

Danish startup Clutch Nutrition, which secured funding from ‘Lion’s Den’ in 2023, has just introduced Clutch InnoSoda – a revolutionary soda designed to promote health and help prevent lifestyle diseases like diabetes and obesity.

Clutch Nutrition says InnoSoda differs significantly from traditional soft drinks by containing a combination of slow-absorbing carbohydrates and a high content of dietary fibre, helping consumers to reduce the rise in blood sugar levels after consumption. This makes the drink an ideal choice for health-conscious consumers who want to consume a sweet and nutritious beverage that is free of artificial sweeteners and preservatives.

Per Bendix Jeppesen, associate professor, PhD at Aarhus University at the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University Hospital says clinical results suggest that the drink is a good alternative to sugary drinks containing sucrose and other fast-absorbing sugars for people with type 2 diabetes, as they are recommended to consume products that induce a lower glycemic response.

“It can also be perceived as a good alternative for non-diabetics because of the nutritional content,” Jeppesen adds.

Rune Rønhave Laursen, founder and molecular biologist, argues that there was evidence to develop a new and healthy alternative that can help people keep slim, and at the same time offer an appropriate physiological effect without side effects.

“We are super proud to present a true health-promoting soft drink with dietary fibre that both tastes great and can help solve the health challenges that soda is often associated with,” adds co-founder Martin Kilic.

The advantages of the new soda (as highlighted by Clutch Nutrition) are:

  • Lower blood sugar rise
  • Dietary fibre equivalent to a slice of rye bread per can – gives an increased feeling of satiety.
  • Free from ’empty calories’, artificial sweeteners and artificial preservatives.
  • Exclusively natural colour and flavour in three flavours: Ginger Lime, Raspberry and Cola.
  • Deep Health: Clutch says it offers possibly the only Coke on the market that is free of both caffeine and phosphoric acid.

Clutch InnoSoda is developed and produced in Denmark with financial support from Innovation Fund Denmark. Behind the invention are also co-founder and doctor Janni Møller, who contributes with her healthcare expertise to the development of the company’s products.
