Frontmatec’s Spanish factory expands robotic automation capacity

Frontmatec AiRA's new facility opened during the company's 25th-anniversary year and expands the international Frontmatec group's Southern Europe production.
Frontmatec AiRA, a Fortifi Food Processing Solutions company, has officially opened its new manufacturing and innovation facility in Cardona, Spain.
The state-of-the-art site at the La Cort II Industrial Estate significantly expands the company’s footprint, promising global food and beverage manufacturers faster access to advanced automation, increased production capacity, and next-generation processing technologies.
For food manufacturers — particularly those in the high-pressure meat processing sector — the opening of this primary Southern European production hub delivers critical solutions to ongoing operational challenges. By scaling up the development and manufacturing of intelligent robotic systems, the facility directly targets the industry’s need for higher efficiency, optimised yields, and enhanced floor safety.
Driving yields through AI and vision technologies
The cornerstone of what the new Cardona facility brings to the market is an accelerated pipeline of smart automation. Frontmatec AiRA specialises in combining robotics with integrated vision and artificial intelligence (AI).
For processing lines, this means access to machinery that can dynamically adapt to product variations in real time. Rather than relying on rigid, legacy automation, manufacturers can deploy intelligent systems capable of making precise adjustments during cutting and handling processes. This high-tier precision directly translates to maximised raw material utilisation and reduced product giveaway, protecting margins at a time of volatile input costs.
Mitigating labour scarcity and enhancing safety
The technologies manufactured at the new Spanish site address the severe labour shortages plaguing the global food supply chain. The factory is tuned to produce robotic solutions designed to take over physically demanding, highly repetitive, and inherently hazardous tasks.
By removing human operators from the most strenuous parts of the processing line, manufacturers can significantly reduce workplace injuries and insurance liabilities while stabilising throughput speeds. The automated systems ensure continuous, high-speed operation without the performance dips associated with manual labour fatigue.
A benchmark for regional engineering
Marking the company’s 25th anniversary, the facility establishes Frontmatec AiRA as the first operational organisation in Cardona’s new industrial area. Driven by 88 specialist employee-owners dedicated to robotics, vision systems, and advanced software architectures, the facility cements the Catalonia region as a core hub for international food tech innovation, giving food drink processors a future-proofed partner capable of scaling alongside their automation demands.
