Premier Foods is preparing to rewrite the rules of the sauces category, marking its biggest move since the brand’s 1995 debut.

Premier Foods is moving the Loyd Grossman brand beyond its well‑established jarred sauces with the launch of premium Pasta Sauce Kits and Rice Kits — a format designed to inject fresh energy into a mature fixture and give retailers a new trade‑up opportunity.

Format designed for involved cooking

The Pasta Sauce Kits (RSP £3.75) arrive in three variants — Signature Bolognese, Creamy Mushroom, and Creamy Tomato & Chilli. Each kit contains three individually prepared pouches, cooked in small batches and combined in stages at home to recreate the layered depth of flavour associated with restaurant cooking.

The format is targeted at food‑loving shoppers who want to feel more involved in the cooking process but still value convenience and reliable results. Premier Foods positions the kits as a premium, incremental offer rather than a replacement for the brand’s core jars.

The Rice Kits (RSP £3.75) — Smoky Spanish Style Paella and Creamy Mushroom Risotto — tackle a clear consumer barrier: dishes perceived as time‑consuming or difficult to get right. Both cook in 12 minutes, offering a shortcut to elevated meals without compromising on flavour.

Rob Watson, global cuisines brand director at Premier Foods, said the launch represents “genuine innovation — giving shoppers a reason to trade up and retailers a genuinely incremental range, backed by the biggest investment we’ve put behind the Loyd Grossman brand in 15 years.”

Loyd Grossman added: “We cook these sauces in stages, the traditional way, for real depth of flavour, to help you create quality dishes at home in minutes.”

A major advertising burst — the brand’s largest in 15 years — will roll out across YouTube, social, radio and out‑of‑home in October and November, with a second wave in early 2027 focused on the core range.

Homepride brings viral flavours

Alongside the Loyd Grossman expansion, Premier Foods is also shaking up the pasta bake category with two trend‑led Homepride launches: Marry Me Chicken Pasta Bake Sauce and Fajita Pasta Bake Sauce (RSP £2.65).

The Marry Me Chicken variant taps into one of the internet’s most viral dishes — now among Google’s most‑searched recipes — translating the creamy, sun‑dried tomato‑style flavour into a convenient pasta bake format. Fajita brings mass‑appeal familiarity to the fixture, expected to resonate strongly with family shoppers.

Watson said the launches are designed to “drive incremental excitement in the pasta bake category, where flavour innovation has historically lagged behind consumer behaviour.”

A dual brand push for premiumisation and relevance

Premier Foods’ twin launches signal a clear intent to dominate the categories through premiumisation through involvement, trend‑led relevance, incremental growth and heavy marketing support — a rare 15‑year‑high investment underscores Premier Foods’ confidence in category‑level disruption.

Together, the launches represent one of Premier Foods’ most assertive category plays in recent years — a coordinated push to modernise two established brands and re‑energise the wider sauces and meal solutions market.
