Queen gets a taste of new Coca-Cola plant

Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, recently visited the Coca-Cola Hellenic bottling plant in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, for a tour of the newly opened factory – and to officially open the new Coca-Cola Visitors Centre.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were greeted by George David OBE, chairman of the Coca-Cola Hellenic Group, before touring the 50,000sq m manufacturing, bottling and warehousing facility, which handles all Coca-Cola production for the island of Ireland.

The facility represents an investment of £93 million (€106m) and provides employment for approximately 600 people directly, and an estimated 6,000 people indirectly in the supply chain. The state-of-the-art plant is capable of producing 250,000 cases of beverages each day and includes an energy-efficient Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant to reduce CO2 emissions in production by 66%, as well as a computer-controlled automatic warehousing system.
