The Brit pack

From bangers and mash and fish and chips to a traditional Sunday roast, there are many iconic British foods, but now Walkers and Heinz have teamed up to launch a range of crisps that might even out-British afternoon tea.

Celebrating British sandwich culture, Walkers has unveiled a range of six limited edition flavours, each incorporating a sauce from Heinz. They are:

  • Bacon & Tomato Ketchup
  • Cheese Toastie & Worcester Sauce
  • Sausage & Brown Sauce
  • Ham & Mustard
  • Roast Chicken & Mayonnaise
  • Cheese, Cucumber & Salad Cream.

In typical British fashion, I love sandwiches. I also love crisps. And I’m partial to a crisp sandwich too, so the thought of a crisp sandwich crisp sandwich is blowing my mind. However, I can’t help but feel that bacon would have been better off with brown sauce and sausage with ketchup.

To celebrate the launch, the company has opened the Crisp Sarnie Club pop up shop in London, where entry is only granted on uttering the words, ‘I’m barmy for sarnies’. Here, guests can celebrate the humble crisp sarnie, build their own crisp sandwich and enjoy other sandwich themed activities.

Out of sheer curiosity I’m going to start with the Cheese, Cucumber & Salad Cream variant.

What are your thoughts on the flavours? Are there any that you are particularly keen to try – or avoid?
