Ball supports Jimmy’s Iced Coffee with range of sustainable cans

Ball Corporation has created a collection of newly designed, recyclable 250ml cans in partnership with Jimmy’s Iced Coffee, the Dorset-based UK beverage brand.

Aluminium cans have a very high recycling rate, at 75% on average in Europe. Swapping the cartons for infinitely recyclable cans moves Jimmy’s closer to achieving their environmental aim of removing all plastic from its packaging in 2020.

The partnership between Ball and Jimmy’s started in 2019 with the launch of the original Flat White in cans. Following the success of this new product, Jimmy’s has worked with Ball to produce three brand-new canned Flat Whites – Skinny, Oat and Extra Shot Flat White.

Waitrose, Tesco and other major supermarkets will be the first to debut the new canned iced coffees. The skimmed Flat White replaces Jimmy’s Skinny Latte carton and comes with a stronger coffee kick.

The announcement follows the news earlier this month that Ball has earned the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certification for all 23 of its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) beverage can plants.

Ball is the first beverage can manufacturer to meet ASI’s environmental, social and governance principles, and is a major sustainability milestone for the company.

All three Iced Flat Whites are under 150 calories, have distinctive and freshly designed two-tone packaging and come in 250ml infinitely recyclable aluminium cans. The design of the new cans is cleaner to align with the simplicity of Jimmy’s new logo.

Flat White coffee is the fastest growing over-the-counter coffee order in the UK [Global Data 2020] and UK consumers want environmentally friendly beverage containers to be more readily available to them.

Luke Wilkes, operations director, Jimmy’s Iced Coffee, said championing sustainability has always been at the heart of Jimmy’s offering.

“Infinitely recyclable aluminium allows us to supply our customers in more environmentally friendly packaging and further embed sustainability in our business. We’re excited to be working with Ball who are one of the leaders in this area,” he said.

Greg Mucha, European business development manager, Ball Beverage Packaging EMEA, said: “With more consumers, retailers and brands demanding sustainable solutions, aluminium cans, which can be recycled over and over, without loss of quality, are the fastest growing packaging type in Europe [Global Data 2020].”
