The Giract European PhD in Flavor Research Awards has returned for its seventeenth edition, continuing its mission to strengthen Europe’s flavour research talent pipeline.

Backed by seven leading sponsors — Ajinomoto, Asahi Group Foods, Givaudan, Kerry, Lallemand Bio‑Ingredients, Lesaffre and PepsiCo — the programme aims to raise awareness of industry pathways and encourage more young scientists to pursue careers in flavour innovation.

Organised by Giract in collaboration with Andrea Cattaruzza, director of AndCat Ltd, and Professor Emeritus Andy Taylor of the University of Nottingham, the awards recognise both first‑year and final‑year PhD students working in flavour science.

Six first‑year PhD candidates will each receive a €3,000 bursary, with the added opportunity to visit selected sponsor laboratories during their second year. These visits, funded through part of the bursary, provide students with first‑hand exposure to industrial R&D environments and insight into real‑world flavour development.

One final‑year PhD student will be awarded €5,000 and invited to present their research at the Savory Flavor and Food Industry Conference in Geneva, offering a valuable platform to connect with potential employers and industry leaders.

Applications for the Giract European PhD in Flavor Research Awards close on 30 October 2026.
