Saucier than we think

July marks the start of National Ice Cream Month – and you’d expect hype and the spectacular. So news that Heinz is releasing a selection of DIY ice cream kits, using a range of Heinz Sauces, to make ‘Heinz Creamz’ at home sounds reasonable enough.

But what we have is the nation’s favourite Heinz sauces available as a kit that includes the accessories you need to make a Heinz Tomato Ketchup, Heinz Classic BBQ, Heinz Saucy Sauce, Heinz [Seriously] Good Mayonnaise or Heinz Salad Cream Ice Creamz.

This will draw some cries of wonderment even disgust yet these are crazy enough combos to draw the crowds. At a time when plenty of people have experimented with their own cooking this could easily feed into their sense of adventure – with, ultimately, familiar brands and tastes.

Each treat, laced with all the tomatoey goodness of a squeeze of ketchup. You won’t believe your taste buds when you try this rich and delicious combination. Best topped with a sprinkling of meringue and a swirl of raspberry coulis for the ultimate summer’s day pud.

And vegans need not miss out on the sweet treat of the summer, because Heinz has also developed a recipe for a refreshing Ketchup sorbet too, topped with a fresh sprig of basil and a drizzle of basil pesto.

Tempted? Disgusted? Whatever your reaction, such creations have a chance of doing rather well.

These offerings are carefully crafted, not just for physical consumption, but for digital consumption as well. They play well on social media, and are highly Instagrammable, and inspire curiosity, attention and disgust.

I’m excited to put condiments to the test and see if they become a summer treat.
