NUTRA NEWS: Lutein awareness growth

Lutein and Health Awareness, a study commissioned by Kemin Health Europe, has revealed that lutein awareness has reached a new record level of 28%, with an impressive peak of 39% in Portugal, which doubled last year’s results on the same study.

This year’s survey also reveals very marked lutein awareness levels in Germany of 37%, UK 27% and Spain 13%.
The fact that vision problems are considered to be the second health concern amongst Europeans only behind heart problems may account for the increase in awareness of age related macular degeneration in all countries, with 45% of UK consumers stating they have heard of this devastating eye disease.
Kemin Health Europe manufactures and markets FloraGLO Lutein, which is the original purified and patented form of lutein available for human supplementation. Lutein is a carotenoid found in nature in dark green leafy vegetables. In the human body, lutein acts as an antioxidant and filter for visible blue light, namely in the skin and in the eyes. Studies have revealed that lutein may be associated with a reduction in the risk of developing blindness.
