Inventory management integrated into safety system

Icicle Technologies has announced the integration of inventory management into its advanced food safety management system Icicle.

Developed as a natural extension of Icicle and backed by user request, the new feature pushes the boundaries of what food safety management systems can do for food companies of all sizes.

Though not typically associated directly with food safety, inventory management can provide an extra layer of oversight for food safety to make sure that traceability is being properly enforced. In fact, some GFSI schemes like SQF are already demanding that food companies keep track of every kilogram of product, and yet, most small and mid sized companies don’t have inventory controls in place.

As Icicle is built to fit within a facility’s existing operations, adding two more attributes (quantity and location) when scanning lot numbers for traceability was a natural development of the system to meet the needs of users. This comprehensive inventory management system allows users to look at any particular ingredient and see how much is available, where it is, how it’s being used and where it went.

The implications for food safety and product integrity extend even further, as inventory controls can assist companies in significantly reducing food waste through advanced automation as well as combat food fraud with checks and balances, providing an audit trail.
