Planteneers has unveiled a suite of new functional systems designed to meet the booming “powerhouse protein” trend, merging high-protein claims with 100% plant-based formulations.
The launch comes as the industry reacts to new data from Innova Market Insights, which reveals that three out of five consumers globally are actively boosting their protein intake. By targeting high-demand categories — specifically meal replacements and indulgent puddings — Planteneers is providing manufacturers with the technical framework to bridge the gap between plant-based nutrition and the sensory expectations of the fitness-focused consumer.
At the centre of the launch is the fiildDairy NEB series, a functional system for high-protein beverages. Using a blend of fava bean and pea proteins from the fiildProt range, the system achieves a 6% protein content while maintaining a clean, lactose-free profile.
The strategy offers a significant operational advantage: the same base can be used to create two distinct product lines. When combined with micronutrient premixes from sister company SternVitamin, the high-protein drink transforms into a complete meal replacement. A 500ml serving provides 20% of the EU-recommended daily macronutrients and 25% of essential vitamins and minerals. These products are shelf-stable, allowing for ambient storage and distribution — a key cost-saver for retailers and wholesalers.
To address the “layers of delight” trend — where sensory indulgence meets health-conscious ingredients — Planteneers has developed a carrageenan-free functional system for plant-based puddings. The system is highly flexible, supporting both standard oat, coconut, or soy-based puddings and specialized 100% plant-based high-protein versions featuring 10% protein content.
The system is engineered for a creamy texture and authentic flavour delivery across several trending profiles:
- Classic: Chocolate and Hazelnut.
- Modern: Cookies and Salted Caramel.
Research indicates that products delivering “healthier indulgence” saw a 26% growth last year. Planteneers’ new systems enable manufacturers to enter this high-growth segment without the traditional technical hurdles of plant protein, such as off-notes or gritty textures.
“Protein is seen as the power for all-around wellbeing,” the company stated. “With these systems, manufacturers can expand the growth of the high-protein market into the plant-based sector, delivering well-being moments and rich delight for the senses.”
