As the global food industry prepares for Vitafoods Europe 2026 in Barcelona, Synergy Flavours has announced it will spearhead the global protein boom with a new suite of taste-modulation technologies and functional concepts.
Exhibiting alongside its parent company, the whey protein specialist Carbery, Synergy (Stand 3K246) aims to help manufacturers navigate a market where nearly 60 per cent of global consumers are actively seeking to increase protein intake for holistic health.
A primary focus for the 2026 showcase is the rapidly emerging “GLP-1 companion” sector. As the use of weight-loss medications surges, consumers are seeking nutrient-dense products to manage side effects like muscle loss and altered taste perceptions.
Synergy will debut an elderflower, lime, and mint companion drink designed specifically to support satiety and muscle maintenance. “GLP-1 users are making big dietary changes to maintain a balanced diet while using the medication,” said Chris Whiting, business development manager for nutrition at Synergy Flavours. “Being able to offer products that meet these specific demographics’ needs is key to successful new product development.”
Functional solutions for healthy ageing and women’s health
Beyond weight management, the company is targeting under-served segments in the functional space, including healthy ageing and “Her Health.”
- Healthy ageing: Synergy will present a blueberry and banana smoothie concept that utilises Carbery’s Optipep and Carbelac proteins. The blend focuses on muscle maintenance and slow-release energy, catering to younger consumers who are increasingly proactive about their long-term quality of life.
- Her health: a strawberry cheesecake-flavoured protein bar will be showcased, formulated with a targeted blend of vitamins and minerals to support bone health, hormone regulation, and muscle strength in women.
- Digestive wellness: a raspberry and passionfruit soda will demonstrate Synergy’s taste-modulation technology, providing sweetness through fruit juices without the need for added sweeteners or acids.
Solving the protein taste gap
With Innova Market Insights naming “Powerhouse Protein” as the top trend for 2026, the challenge for manufacturers remains achieving high protein content without compromising sensory appeal.
Synergy argues that the era of chalky protein shakes is over. By combining Carbery’s premium whey heritage with Synergy’s expertise in flavour development, the partnership aims to prove that high-functionality products can — and must — deliver a premium taste experience.
“Consumers across all sectors expect an enhanced eating and drinking experience that moves far beyond the flavour compromises once associated with protein fortification,” Whiting added.
Visitors can experience the full range of concepts, including high-protein coffees and chocolate puddings, at stand 3K246 during Vitafoods Europe, May 5-7, 2026.
