Enjoy chocolate and sweets as part of a balanced diet and lifestyle. That is the message the industry is flagging up to consumers. Masterfoods, in conjunction with Cadbury Trebor Bassett and the Biscuit, Cake, Chocolate and Confectionery Association (BCCCA) have joined forces in a major education initiative to help consumers understand better how to enjoy chocolate and confectionery as part of a balanced diet.
The ‘Be Treatwise – Get to know your GDAs’ is the slogan to be used on packs for funsize and multipacks of Twix, Galaxy, Mars, Milky Way, Snickers and Maltesers.
The information panel shows the big eight nutrients and the percentage contribution per portion to Guideline Daily Amounts for calories, sugar, fat, saturates and salt.
‘Be Treatwise’ is being co-ordinated by the BCCCA, which has set up a website that will provide information on the role of treats in the diet, the importance of moderate consumption and activity and understanding guideline daily amounts. It is an industry first for two leading confectionery companies to work together on a consumer education campaign of this scale.
