Nestlé Waters UK has announced that it has achieved independently verified zero waste to landfill at both its factory in Derbyshire and head office in Hertfordshire. In a category committed to improving its environmental performance, these actions have seen the company divert 500 tonnes from landfill in the last 12 months.

Nestlé Waters, which produces brands including Buxton and Nestlé Pure Life, has achieved this one year ahead of the organisation’s planned schedule through a number of measures and a sustained programme of employee engagement. Almost every item of waste, including paper, cardboard, PET bottles, glass and wooden pallets, has been reprocessed into new products, of which almost half of these then return to Nestlé Waters for re-use. The small fraction of waste that cannot be recycled is used for waste to energy.

The company has also led with commitments on reducing packaging used, removing in 2012 an average of 25% PET across the range of Buxton Natural Mineral Water and Nestlé Pure Life Spring Water bottles.
