Public health focus for BCCC annual conference
Professionals from across the biscuit, cake, chocolate and confectionery world gathered in Oxfordshire this week to discuss how the sector can deliver on public health, with a special focus on the Government’s Responsibility Deal.
“A common thread that affects us all is the health and nutrition of our products, their subsequent labelling and finally their marketing,” says United Biscuits’ Simon Roulston, chairman of the Biscuit, Cake, Chocolate and Confectionery Annual Conference. “All three of these areas attract a great deal of focus and are developing in significant ways.
“The issues we face are shared issues, and through education, discussion and collaboration, we can formulate strategies and work together for a healthy future.”
The conference also looked at the work being done to champion the food industry as a career destination of choice.
“A highly-skilled and innovative workforce lies at the heart of a successful food and drink industry,” says FDF’s director of HR and competitiveness Angela Coleshill. “Manufacturers of biscuits, cakes and chocolate and confectionery have been very successful in adding value through new product development as well as reformulating the recipes of popular British products, but in order to carry on the innovative work that is being done in this sector it is vital that the industry is able to attract and retain talented people.”
