LycoRed Israel has launched a new line of slow release ingredients that help confectionery manufacturers retain taste in gum products for longer.

Chewing gum and chewy candies typically maintain their taste for less than five minutes, which means that manufacturers are often looking for ways to prolong flavour release.

Following the ever increasingly popular trend for sugar free gum, LycoRed offers three artificial sweeteners SucraCote, AsparCote aspartame and AcesuCote acesulfame K. These all provide a slow release delivery system providing flavour enhancement through longer flavour retention. Microencapsulated capsular malic acid allows for slow release of sour flavours.

A recent study by the Wrigley science institute found that chewing gum may play a role in weight control. Participants reported decreased hunger pangs and reduced calorie intake when they chewed gum before a snack. This may indicate the reason why Global Business Insights reported that the fastest growing category within the US confectionery market is chewing gum, thereby increasing the market value of long lasting flavour release products.
