Amcor has unveiled an enhanced portfolio of thermoformed solutions designed to capitalise on the rapidly growing ready-meal and dairy sectors.

The move comes as Euromonitor reports a steady 5% market growth rate, driven by a dual consumer demand for affordability and reliability. According to the report, thermoformed packaging is an asset capable of extending shelf life by up to 50% while slashing food waste and maintaining sustainability standards.

Amcor’s latest portfolio focuses on three core pillars: shelf-life extension, recyclability, and brand impact. By utilising advanced thermoforming techniques, the brand is offering high-performance containers that cater to the convenience-first mindset of modern shoppers.

Technical specifications & sustainability
  • Recycle-ready construction: containers are built using mono-material designs, ensuring they are compatible with recycling streams in regions with established infrastructure.

  • The EVOH barrier: for ambient products requiring long-term freshness, Amcor incorporates an EVOH barrier to block oxygen ingress. Crucially, this barrier is accepted within existing recycling processes.

  • Lightweighting: through technical optimisation, Amcor has reduced the material weight of its pots and tubs without sacrificing durability or performance, helping brands lower their carbon footprints.

The range includes a diverse array of round cups and pots, multi-component trays (with customisable inserts), variable heights and shapes to suit everything from premium yogurts to complex ready-to-eat meals.

In a crowded retail environment, Amcor is leaning into premium decoration technologies to help brands win the “moment of truth” at the shelf edge.

  1. Patented over-the-rim printing: a unique process for pre-printed lids that provides edge-to-edge coverage, ensuring no “blank” spaces on the packaging.

  2. Thermoformed in-mould labelling (TIML): unlike traditional direct printing, TIML applies pre-printed labels during the thermoforming process itself. This allows for high-definition, multi-coloured designs with a superior finish.

“The convenience food sector is incredibly competitive. The right packaging plays a vital role in ensuring quality, creating a strong brand image, and encouraging loyalty. Our ability to offer both standard packs and bespoke, customized containers means we can meet the precise needs of any customer,” said Katrina Burrett, product line director, Amcor global rigids packaging solutions.
