FSA calls for research

The UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) is inviting expressions of interest for research proposals in five areas.

The areas of research the agency wants to fund are:

  • Tackling foodborne listeriosis
  • Exploring the potential for technology to support its objectives in meat operations
  • Exploring the potential of integrating next generation sequencing and other ‘big data’
  • Identification and prioritisation of risks to food safety and quality associated with the use of recycled waste derived materials in agriculture and other aspects of food production
  • Optimising food and feed sampling and analysis.

Projects are expected to reach completion by the end of March 2016, but innovative research ideas with clear outcomes that align with the FSA strategic priorities might be considered for further funding.

Initial expression of interest applications should be submitted online using the FSA electronic public procurement system (ePPS) by 5pm on Monday 14 September 2015. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit a full application by Wednesday 21 October 2015.

Background information, specifications and a detailed description of the full application process can be found here.
