Rapid response safety centre opens its doors

Thermo Fisher Scientific has opened a facility dedicated to the rapid development of analytical methods to help contain costly and potentially dangerous food contamination. The Food Safety Response Centre (FSRC) in Dreieich, Germany, is a fully equipped laboratory for food sample preparation combined with state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation, says the firm.
“When a crisis occurs, analytical methods need to be developed rapidly for testing different types of food,” says a Thermo Fisher Scientific spokesman. “The variety of food types means that different approaches are required. For example, handling a matrix like meat or fish is distinct from the approach employed for handling fruit and vegetables.” As a result, FSRC is staffed with a team of experienced food chemists with backgrounds in areas of food safety as well as expertise in analytical method development.
