Red meat should carry a warning says WWF

Packs of red meat should carry warning labels advising shoppers to eat no more than three portions a week, amid claims that livestock production is killing the planet.

The proposals come from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), which also wants Britons to switch to milk substitutes as part of a move away from dairy farming.
Not surprisingly, the food industry has slammed the idea, saying it is likely to decimate British agriculture.
However, WWF argues that meat packs should carry a warning label reading ‘1 of 3 a week max’ while bottles of milk or packs of cheese should state: ‘1 of 3 a day max’.
The organisation also wants the composition of certain ready meals changed to reduce the amount of red meat and dairy contained within them.
Says co-author of the WWF study, Charlotte Lee-Woolf: ‘We’ve looked at what people are eating, and at a population level we are over-consuming red meat by 70 per cent and dairy by 40 per cent.’
