New PTS system for major meat supplier

Savoye, the global warehouse integrator of logistics and IT systems, has signed a deal to deploy its PTS (Picking Tray System) order fulfilment solution to Kermené, a major meat supplier for French supermarket retailer E.Leclerc. The system will enable Kermené, which currently processes 170,000 tonnes of meat each year, to handle 5,000 boxes an hour.

The logistics integrator first began work on the mechanisation of Kermené’s logistic platform in March. Located to the west of the city of Rennes, close to its meat processing operation, the 9,000m2 temperature controlled site is currently being extended to create an additional 6,000m2. The new automated cell will be commissioned this summer with a Savoye PTS Picking Tray System over five storage rack aisles.

“This project involves a high performance, compact order fulfilment system,” says Alain Bussod, Savoye’s sales director for France. “Fifty autonomous shuttles will circulate over ten levels of quadruple depth racks to pick the products to be prepared.”

Due to be fully operational in the summer of 2012, the Savoye installation will allow the preparation of 5,000 mono-base, multi-height boxes an hour. The solution also provides Kermené with the option to process up to 10,000 boxes an hour in the next 3 to 5 years, with the addition of new storage aisles.
